THE JAYWALKERS FAN CLUB
Were you in The Jaywalkers Fan Club? Then please mail us firstname.lastname@example.org
From the moment The Jaywalkers struck their first chord they've had fans. I chatted to Geoff Moss about how good it must have been backing people like Acker Bilk so early on in the bands career and found out that Acker had not taken a shine to the band at all because of their support, Geoff said "He didn't not! like us per say, it wasn't his kind of music. He was a household name and we were just young kids having a good time. It was a local gig and many fans had come to see us, it was just that when our set had finished and it was time for Acker to go on they were all still cheering and shouting for us, Acker didn't like that..."
To begin with the bands fan club was run by Peter Jays mum (pictured left) later on the share volume of mail was to much for mum and the club was taken on by ??. Later when the boys had all moved to London the fanclub evovled once more and was run by??
Peter Jay described the fan club at it's height, "We had thousands of fans, it was incredible. They would collect everything, some would write to us on a weekly basis to find out what we were up to. We became good friends with many of them as we constanly toured around the country. It was nice to know you had their support"
In a snippet in Melody Maker on the 27th June 1964 it says a fan actually cut Peter Jays ear when trying to get a locket of hair.
